(Sebangau
National Park) area is one of peat ecosystem representative in central of Kalimantan
that relatively intact. Related to soil structure, soil type, topography,
hydrology, flora and fauna, it has unique ecosystem characteristic. Peat depth
starting from 3 to 12 meters, and related to it biodiversity, this area has the
largest animal species of orangutan (Pongo pygmeus) around 14% of total
population in Kalimantan.
It has three
supporting watersheds, of Sungai Katingan, Sungai Sebangau and Sungai Kahayan watersheds.
Ecologically these watersheds are important to distribute their hydrology
function for irrigation, agriculture, fishery, and drink water supply for local
and surrounded areas, including to support water transportation as the main
transportation for community in the surrounded villages on both sides of Sungai
Sebangau. Thus, when this area is damage, the impact is not only affecting watersheds but also will negatively impacted
the community economy.
Taman
Nasional Sebangau was assigned on October 2004 – it is the youngest national
park in the nation
TOURISM
Combination
of Sebangau Nature and community, is become interested tourism potential.
Panorama, biodiversity, and community culture can be combined into ecotourism
package and valuable culture tourism, particularly for adventurers and tourists
with particular interest.
The forest
along river, wild animal attraction, black water ecosystem and peat land forest
provided promising exotic new adventure for visitors.
Dayak
Community as a native ethnic in Central Kalimantan, has valuable tradition and
sacred culture heritage that believe has strong impact in every aspects of
live.
The most
famous custom festival in this community is tiwah, a
ceremony obtain to deliver human spirit to eternal live (heaven). It continues
in several days accompanied by dynamic dances of Dayak ethnic.
Festival Isen Mulang obtained annually accompanied by
traditional games, like fire ball soccer, Dragon ship, ghost ship and blowpipe
festival. Both festivals are part of tourism potentials.
